Benjamin Leonard Benjamin of Dayton, Ohio transitioned from Earth to Heaven on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Benjamin was born to Willie Porter and Elizabeth ‘Bobbie’ Combs in Hazard, Kentucky.

Benjamin was raised, loved, and cared for by stepfather Eugene Boyce (teenage years into adulthood). Benjamin graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1969. Ben was a Roosevelt Teddie who participated in school activities such as playing basketball and football. “Gentle Ben” as he was affectionately known, was baptized at MT Zion Baptist Church in Hazard, Kentucky in the late 1950’s. He was a man of great integrity and required the respect of others. Benjamin followed in his dad’s footsteps, straight out of high school working for General Motors for more than 30+ years until his retirement around 2008. In later years, Ben helped coach the Meadow-Dale Pee Wee football team for three years where he gave his time and talents to help guide children in his community.

Benjamin was a “Die-hard” fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, as it was evident in his home with the presence of UK memorabilia. Ben enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow and achieve their dreams gathering with family members to celebrate special occasions watching old black-and-white cowboy movies and playing his all-time favorite game of Solitaire.

Proceeded In death his parents, stepfather, and brother John Willie, beloved sister Elizabeth Ann, and half-brother James Boyce.

He is survived by his stepson Christopher Richardson and longtime girlfriend Jannie Clark; sisters Judy Myles, and Jannetta (Michael) Warren; Sister-in-law Velma Boyce and Brother-in-law Charles Perkins; Nieces Dorothy Boyce, Andrea Michele Perkins, Anne Marie Perkins-Herndon, Kimberly Jackson; nephews Chris Boyce, Leachim and Kevon Warren. Great nieces Peyton and Parker, great nephews Demetrius (Chelsea) Dominick, Xzavier and Xzayden and great-great nephew Isaiah. Honorable mention close cousins: Mary (Sissy) Walker, William (Plutsy) Lindon and Victor Combs. Devoted long-time friends: Patricia Richardson, Dr. Audrey Frison-Robinson, Norma Raglan, and Tebin Byrd. Host of Combs-Olinger family members and friends.
