Julia attended grade school at Whittier Elementary and graduated from Paul
Laurence Dunbar High School in 1969. She attended Wilberforce University and
Sinclair Community College.

During the 1970’s she began her career with the Combined Health District of
Montgomery County (since renamed Public Health - Dayton and Montgomery
County). Julia worked as the Front Office Manager for the Charles Drew Health
Center and Lakeside Health Center at this time.
In 1984 Julia began a sixteen-year career establishing and managing a series of
Laundromats and Dry Cleaners known as The Clean Scene. Julia was gracious as a
manager and treated her staff well. She was a strong advocate for her employees.
This ensured that employees would receive raises and yearly bonuses. Julia would
prepare laundry baskets for Thanksgiving for all employees that would include a
turkey, stuffing, rolls, and all the trimmings for their family feast. The Clean Scene
employed hundreds of employees during Julia’s tenure as Manager. The list of
employees included several members of the Beach and Poore families.

After her time at the Clean Scene Julia returned to Public Health - Dayton and
Montgomery County as the Business Manager at the East Dayton Health Center until
she retired.

Julia joined Wayman Chaple AME Church under Reverend CN Flanigan on November
16, 1980. She was a member of Stewardess Board 2 and the Altar Guild.
Julia was devoted Mom to her children Daymon, Johnathon, and James. There
are very fond memories of Julia laughing with her children, singing to them, telling
stories, and her quick wit and sense of humor. She was a masterful chef and loved to
prepare meals for her family and friends. Her children’s favorite dishes were Mom’s
Famous Beef Roast and fried chicken. Julia also loved to host friends and family for
celebrations, which often included exciting games on bid whist(z). Julia was masterful
card player and always had a well time wise crack during games, especially upon her
victories.

Julia enjoyed reading, singing, and collectibles. She had collections of angels, doves,
owls, blue jays, clowns, and African American dolls, to name a few. Julia was the
ultimate bargain shopper! She instilled a strong sense of faith of God in her children
and grandchildren. Julia believed that education and hard work were the keys to
success. She was loved by many and will be missed.
