PHILIP WILLIAM THORNTON, age 80, departed this life on October 1, 2017. A beloved father and friend, Philip was a proud native of Hazard, Kentucky (Perry County) and a resident of Dayton, Ohio for many years.

Philip graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and was a charter member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church where he faithfully sang with the Men of Calvary and served as a Trustee until his death.

After his notable service as a Senior Director with the Dayton-area YMCA, Philip retired and continued to serve his community as a parking attendant with PMI AssociĀates and the Dayton Dragons.

When he was not spending time with his family or serving at church, Philip enjoyed cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats, the Cincinnati Reds, The University of Dayton Fliers, and his beloved Cleveland Browns.
Philip is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert ThornĀton and Christine Thornton-Clayton, and his former wife, Patricia Anne Parks Thornton. Philip leaves three beloved children, sons Jermaine (Sunni, and sons Noah, and Luca) Thornton of Columbus, Ohio, and David Thornton of Houston, Texas, and daughter Victoria Thornton of Dayton, Ohio, to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of church and community service. Joining Philip's three children is a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews; his beloved Calvary Grace Brethren Church family; and several special friends to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life and legacy.
