On Monday, September 18, 2017, Monica passed away at her home in Temple Hills, MD Monica Lee (Combs) Walker quietly and peacefully entered into eternal rest in the presence of the Lord. Monica L. Walker was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family dearly. She was surrounded and
supported by her loving family during the last days of her life."


Monica L. Walker was born on August 26, 1943 in Hazard, KY. She was the oldest child of seven siblings to the late John W Combs Sr. Mary Florence (Brown) Combs. Monica accepted the Lord at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age. As an adult she joined Cornerstone Baptist Community Church in Temple Hills, MD.

Monica Lee attended school at Liberty High School, an all-black school during the fifties during the time of segregation. Once schools were integrated in the sixties, Monica was transferred to Hazard High School. In her later years, Monica became involved in what is known as The Liberty Reunion Committee. She played an essential role in the development and organization of a wall being built with bricks to represent those who attended the historical school. Being an active member, Monica created a scholarship fund committee to give back to the minority community in her home town of Hazard, KY. In the 1980's and 1990's Monica wasactively involved in a social organization known as the "Kentucky Rendezvous" whose members were originallyfrom Kentucky and relocated to the D.C., Maryland, Virginia, (DMV) area. Monica was actively involved
in the Combs Family Reunion (CFR), in the 90's Monica was one of the first presidents of the CFR committee.

On February 2, 1959 Monica married the love of her life Harrison K. Walker Sr. From this union two sons were born, Harrison Walker Jr. and Anthony Ray Walker. In addition to her biological sons, she had a sspecial nephew that she loved and cared for as a son, Jarvis Hagans. In the early sixties, Monica and her husband Harrison moved to Washington, D.C. This is where she made her home and an awesome life. Monica began
a career at the United States Postal Service where she retired from after 38 years, to care for her late husband Harrison. Monica was a "strong black woman" who loved and cherished her family. This love was shown best byher willingness to extend her home and a helping hand to family and friends, young and old, when they needed it the most. Monica loved hard. This love was illustrated by her out spoken personality and she had no problem expressing her opinion. Through each opinion she kept a heart of gold. Family meant everything to Monica. She loved to entertain, cook, play cards, and have a good time. She also loved her collection of elephants.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harrison K. Walker Sr.; father John W Combs Sr.; mother Mary Florence (Brown) Combs and (1 brother John W Combs Jr. .

Left to cherish her loving memories are: her devoted sons Harrison K. (Michelle)Walker Jr. (Clinton, MD), and Anthony R. Walker (Temple Hill, MD); three sisters, Josephine C. (Howard) Ptimous (Palm Beach Gardens, FL)., Mary E. Walker, and Lenora M. Combs, both of (Lexington, KY); two brothers, Byron F. Combs (Louisville, KY), and Victor (Dorothy) Combs (Conroe, TX); two sisters-in-law, Darrylyn (John W
Ir.-deceased) Combs(Lexington, KY), and Irene Lightfoot, (Temple Hills, MD); one former special brother in-law, Anthony (Tony) Walker (Lexington, KY) four grandchildren; Annessa Davidson, Isaiah Love, Monica Juliet Walker, and Kayla Walker; three aunts, Eloise Cornett, (Indianapolis, IN), Corenthia Brown, (Phoenix,
AZ), Doretha Henderson (Ocala, FL); One God Son, Len Everest (Temple Hills, MD); one God Daughter, Ingrid Gavins (Temple Hills, MD); one former special daughter in-law, Carla Walker (Ft. Washington, MD); a very special friend.Eugenia Robinson (Washington, D.C.);a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, great
nieces, cousins, friends and other relatives that she cherished and loved very much. Monica will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
