Doretha Henderson
1936-05-12 2021-02-12Doretha Henderson, the only daughter to homemaker Nettie Lee Green and coal miner Cutis Bishop Sr. was born in Blue Diamond, KY on November 24, 1936.
At an early age Doretha realized the ultimate calling on her life was to be a mother to may, hence her beloved name” Granny”. Doretha married early in life and raised her five children with Simon Combs Jr. She later married her long-time friend and love Henry “Paw Paw” Henderson. Sr. With this blended family of 13 children and 27 grandchildren there was never a dull moment in the house. While in Dayton, OH Doretha worked at WHIO Channel 7 for several years in facility management, later moving to Ocala, FL to work for Sears Holding Co. “K-Mart” in customer service until retiring in 1993.
Upon retiring, Doretha began sewing as a hobby in her past time. Fast forward with 3 different sewing machines in her sewing room, carts full of fabric and many different patterns its safe to say she loved sewing. Her hands were rarely idle because when she wasn’t sewing, she was in the kitchen making her famous dinner rolls, loved by all grandchildren or making a cake for her church family.
Doretha gave her life over to Christ at an early age, when she joined the National Ushers of America Association in Dayton, OH. A devout woman of God, she was a proud member of Clearwater Missionary Baptist Church in Ocklawaha, FL whom she loved with her whole heat. She was a faithful and committed Christian woman who mothered any and every one that she was around.
She went to be with The Lord on Friday, February 12, 2021 surrounded by her children.
