
Martin Poore

Martin Poore was born in Hazard, Kentucky, and May 9, 1921 to James and Edna Poore. He departed this life January 2, 1888. Early in life he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hazard, Kentucky where he was baptized. In months prior to his death he renewed his faith while praying with Rev. David I. Fox and accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as his savior.
As a youth in Kentucky he attended Liberty H.S. where he played football and the drums. He also worked for CCC-Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1942, Martin and Evelyn V. Combs were married. Martin then joined the military. He was a Veteran of World War II Army Air Corps and upon returning home from the service in 1947 he worked in the coal mines until he relocated his family to Dayton Ohio in 1952. Martin worked for GHR Foundry and ran his own floor tiling business. He became interested in community action during the 1960’s and became Chairman of the Board for M.A.T. (Moving Ahead Together), an anti poverty program in Dayton, OH.
He was a resident of Dayton, Ohio for 35 years, and retired from the City of Dayton Sanitation Department in 1973 after 20 years of service.
During their union Martin and Evelyn were blessed with 9 children: Craig, Edna, Ramonia, Julia, Reynoldo, Joyce, Shelia, Anthony and Rachell.
Martin was a loving husband and father, who lived and worked for his family. He founds great pleasure in fishing, gardening and the companionship of family. He taught his children and grandchildren that a good education was an absolute necessity, encouraging and supporting them as they grew.
Martin was a very sharing person, and he was highly respected by his friends and neighbors, his children’s friends, and anyone he found in need. He was “Daddy” to everyone.
Proceeded in death by his parents, James Poore and Edna (Mc Carthy) Poore Gilbreath, one sister Shirley (Poore) Holt; and one cousin, Vonda Arnett. Martin leaves to mourn: his beloved wife, Evelyn with whom he shared a marriage of deep devotion; daughters and sons in law, Edna Howell of Cincinnati, OH, Ramonia and Rufus Knox of Dayton, OH, Julia and Ceopha Beach of Dayton, Oh, Joyce and Derk Keith of Dayton, OH, Sheila and Clinton Moore of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Rachell Poore of Dayton, Ohio and god niece, Gloria Wilson of Dayton, OH; sons and daughter-in-law, Craig and Jackie Poore of Sacramento, California, Reynoldo Poore of Columbus, Ohio Anthony Poore of Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Craig M. Howell, Mona Lisa , Lawrence Poore, Kiesha Knox, Laura Poore, Daymon Beach, Johathan Beach, Reynoldo Poore, Jr., Martin Poore, Shayla Moore, James Beach, Devin Poore and Jennifer Moore; niece, Nadine (Poore) Anderson of Lexington, KY; nephew, Marion Elmer Adams of Indianapolis, IN; his cousin’s wife and son, Georgia Mae Arnett and Billy; a host of other relatives and friends.
