Evelyn Virgie (Combs) Poore was born on January 4, 1924 in Hazard, KY she passed away March15, 2004 in her hometown of Dayton, OH at the age of 80 years old. Evelyn accepted Christ in her life as a young girl . She was a member of Town Mountain Baptist Church in Hazard where she taught Sunday School. Like her sisters and brothers she attended Liberty High School in Hazard . Evelyn started working as a young girl and saved her money from cooking and baby sitting to buy her school clothes. On October 6, 1941 Evelyn married her sweetheart Martin Poore. In 1952 they moved to Dayton, Ohio where they made their home. During their 47 years of marriage, they had 9 children , 3 sons and 6 daughters, 13 grand children and 11 great-grand children. Martin passed away on January 2, 1988 after battling cancer.

Evelyn began attending Wayman Chapel AME Church in 1989 and reaffirmed her commitment to. She faithfully attended services until she became ill.

Evelyn was affectionately called "Mother", by her children, grand children and neighbors . She was a devoted wife , mother, excellent cook and avid gardener who loved growing flowers and vegetables. She suffered many years in silence ,but it was her faith that kept her focused on the promises of God.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Martin; son, Reynoldo; parents, Simon and Janie B. Combs; sisters: Winnie, Christine, Edythe, Elizabeth; brothers: John, James and Simon. She leaves her memory, to (1) surviving brother Lionel Combs; daughters: Edna, Ramonia, Julia, Joyce, Shelia, Rachell; sons: Craig and Anthony, along with a host of grand children, great grand children, family and friends.
